Bisons Host Union Night on fridaynightbash!®, August 15 $8 Admission Tickets to Union Members, Proceeds to Benefit United Way

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that they will host “Union Night,” on Friday, August 15 against the Rochester Red Wings at Dunn Tire Park (7:35 p.m.). All union members will have the ability to purchase $8 game tickets in advance with ticket proceeds to benefit the United Way.

There will also be a silent auction of autographed Bisons memorabilia during the game as well as a 50/50 split raffle to benefit the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. The game tickets must be purchased by August 14 by calling the Bisons at (716) 846-2044 to receive the discounted $8 price.

“The Bisons are very proud of our long standing relationship with the local unions that are vital to our day-to-day operations,” said Mike Buczkowski, Vice President/General Manager of the Bisons. “This event provides us with the opportunity to support the United Way for their efforts to protect our great workers.”

Bison Baseball Inc. is a Union House as all of Dunn Tire Park’s ticket takers, ticket sellers, ushers and head ushers belong to Local 200 of SEIU. Pettibones Grille Restaurant associates are members of Local 4 Unite Here!

"We're so grateful to our friends in the labor movement - and to the Buffalo Bisons - for making this game possible," said Arlene Kaukus, United Way President. "Unions in our community have provided tremendous support to United Way for decades, both through financial contributions and volunteer hours, and combining a fun summer evening at the ballpark with an opportunity to make a difference through United Way is a wonderful idea."

In 2007, through our partnership with the AFL/CIO Council, the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County assisted 292 members of 34 Locals. Last year along, the United way helped 3,400 Union members get the help they needed through personalized information and referral - food vouchers, rent and utility assistance, and other vital services. The United Way also assisted over 3,100 union and non-union employees facing layoffs, closings, or strikes from local companies including American Axle, Dunlop, General Motors, and Gibraltar Steel through personal outreach and sharing information about available resources

Friday, August 15’s game will also be the team’s final fridaynightbash!® of the season, sponsored by Seneca Gaming Corporation. The evening will begin with a pre-game Plaza Party at 5:00 p.m. with live music from The Perfect Game (Rock covers) and $3 food and drink specials on hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian Sausages and 16 oz. draft beer. After the game there will be a Fireworks Show, presented by HSBC Bank USA, N.A.

Mary Harris “Mother” Jones begins “The March of the Mill Children”, when, accompanied part of the way by children, she walked from Philadelphia to President Theodore Roosevelt’s home on Long Island to protest the plight of child laborers.
