| RETIRED LABOR REPS FORM UNIQUE GROUP
By Hector Titus
The ASSOCIATION OF LABOR UNION PROFESSIONALS (ARLUP) is an informal organization of retired individuals who have served their various labor unions in some full-time paid capacity during their working careers.
The idea for such an organization grew out of impromptu lunch meetings enjoyed by a small number of individuals who realized that while still interested and, in some cases, still active in labor matters, were all retired.
The existence of ARLUP became known thus far by word-of-mouth only and it has gradually grown. In an area such as ours that is nationally recognized as one of the highest organized labor concentrations in the nation, we feel that the potential for increased participation is considerable.
ARLUP meets usually on the last Tuesday of each month at 12 noon at Ilio DiPaolo’s restaurant for a relaxed and pleasant get-together.
There has been no formal agenda, as such. An increased membership and fresh input would be most welcome. There is no strict structure, no application and no dues. Those present just kick-in as necessary to pay for lunch. In this era of the on-going struggle for the survival of organized labor, who knows what role such and organization might play. The only way to find out would be to put our heads together and see where it might lead. What do you say?
